Gorilla Costume Accessories
When I first saw a person in a gorilla suit was on a rodeo stage being ridden by an actor that specialized in "monster shows." He would perform magic tricks and then "unleash" an enormous gorilla, Frankenstein monster or mummy in order to frighten the crowd. Morris was his name and he constructed very authentic and distinctive costumes that he promoted in magazines devoted to show business. One of his clients was Roger Patterson, who used a Morris costume on the Bigfoot videotape was made in 1967.
Since the early days of sound, actors in gorilla costumes were a regular image on television. Up until the 1940s, all gorilla roles were performed by two hardworking performers named Charles Gemora and Ray "Crash" Corrigan. Both of them created and designed very unique, very authentic costumes that were featured in a myriad of film features and serials to list. Both men altered their costumes when science-fiction films became popular. Gemora appeared in War of the Worlds while Corrigan made an appearance in It, The Terror from Beyond Space.
